The simple version is that NightPulse provides information about major local events and nightspots that cater to adults. This does not include stadiums, pure restaurants, private parties, artist performances or adult entertainment. This does include bars, pubs, nightclubs, concerts and adult-focused festivals like Oktoberfest. If NightPulse is open, it occasionally uses your smartphone's GPS system between 4pm and 4am to check if you're attending any known nightspot locations. If you aren't, it doesn't record or do anything. If you are, it automatically checks you in and makes that information available to as many or as few friends as you specify. Manual check-ins are available in venue profiles.

Nightpulse users are not obligated to disclose any information about their whereabouts or intentions. Users cannot exclude specific people on their friendslist but at any time can activate "privacy mode" which prevents all of a user's NightPulse friends from receiving their location. They are still anonymously counted for attendance figures, but nobody knows that it's them.

Adding friends to NightPulse is easy. Simply provide it with an email address and it will find them among our users. If those friends don't have NightPulse, you can send a short message to them explaining what it is and why they should get it. Friends are then accepted and added to the list or rejected. Rejected people can be added again later.

These icons, found on venue profile pages, denote the features they offer to the public on a regular basis. The icons you see on today's listing will be complemented by details on what's happening tonight in the Events menu. Here is a listing of the icons that are currently active:

The number of people that show up on NightPulse is dependent on the number of users in your area and the number of locations we've catalogued in our system. If the app has just been launched in your city, the number of venues and attendees will rise as more people join in and we successfully catalogue great new locations in your town.

The most likely reason is that NightPulse hasn't been launched in your area yet. To make sure our users get dependable information, we work with providers directly and we don't want to leave any out. That being said, we determine which cities to launch in next based on how many venue nominations we get from users and owners alike. That means that even if we're not in your town yet, helping us find and catalogue all of the great locations on offer will help us get there faster and provide more service to you, your friends and your fellow nightspot patrons. Nightpulse does not sell your personal information to third parties. Participating venues are able to access the same attendance figures as other users, as well as acquire anonymous information about their patrons' bar-related preferences in order to serve them better. Emails, attendance, friends lists and other user-generated data is used exclusively by NightPulse to provide service to you and your friends and to figure out how to serve NightPulse users better. We're creating NightPulse together and won't jeopardize that by betraying our users' trust.
